Julie Ayton's work is made on the wheel; she continues to make domestic stoneware with muted, silky surfaces, and porcelain bowls, cups and teapots in classic oriental glazes.
The porcelain has become an increasingly important part of her work, allowing, because of its smooth, fine texture, a completely different approach to surface treatment. These pots often make use of different glazes to highlight or underline details of form, and surface pattern is added by means of wiping away areas of clay or trailing on lines or dots with a porcelain slip.
