Trish Coady Clements has been investigating the versatility of wool and the scope for artistic expression within the techniques, at first making rugs, hats and hangings from flat felt and using reverse appliqué to disclose hidden colours. She then evolved a method of moulding slippers and hats to produce felt that needs no seams or structural stitching. Trish is now exploring the possibilities inherent in constructing nuno felt, in which wool fibres are felted into woven silk, producing a lightweight, diaphanous and drapable textile. She makes seamless pieces which suggest body shape in structure and surface design, to be worn or displayed.
