John Buchanan's work has a strong accent on form, with clear, simple bands of colour representing the sea and sand, inspired by fishing boats left high and dry by the falling tide. Art orientated from youth John, like all creative craftsmen, imposes the highest standards on his work, feeling that our present society has become enveloped in an artificial hi-tech plastic environment which lacks the warm human touch so evident in hand-made things. He founded the John Buchanan School of Pottery in 1978 and has worked with and been inspired by Anthony Richards and John Maltby.
