Raku fired with a technique using sand, this small noodle bowl is handcrafted with a unique sand appearance, but glazed so the finish is smooth in contrast. These bowls are part of a new range using this technique, and have a very contemporary yet natural earthy feel.
Rob Sollis trained at Dartington Pottery between 1984-1988 and worked as a production thrower in Norway and England before establishing Fishacre Pottery in Littlehempston, Totnes, in 1990. He has specialised in Raku fired ceramics with the employment of crackle glazes ever since, whilst the naming and titling of his pots is an intrinsic part of his work as a whole.
Since a very successful exhibition in February 2002 with Audi cars and supported by the Devon Guild, Rob Sollis at the Wheel , a range of special effect ceramics has evolved and serves as a departure from his better-known Raku and smoke fired work. These new finishes form the larger part of Rob's present work.
Rob Sollis ceramics are individually hand thrown and fired creating unique texture, pattern and hues of colour in each piece.
