Rosie Sanders is a botanical artist who works as a painter and printmaker. Rosie won the Miniature Award at the Royal Academy in 1985 and has been given four Gold Medals for botanical art by the Royal Horticultural Society.
When painting plants or with her prints, Rosie believes in working from life. She either works directly on to the plate or does the painting first and works from that.
Attracted to the sometimes almost anthropomorphic quality and surprising humour of fruit and vegetables, Rosie remarks of her subject matter:
"Rather than alter them to fit an already formed idea, it is the individuality impressed by Nature that normally triggers the idea for my images. I like to work in the allotments or the fruit and vegetable garden and see the produce in its most varied and bizarre forms".
